When Wit Meets Fashion: Hilarious Tales of My Fashionable Boys

Timely and Engaging Dialogue An Unforgettable Encounter with Toby and Anton

Toby & Anton A Conversation

Toby Anton

A few years ago, I discovered that parents have a certain affinity for different stages of their child’s growth – some adore teeny babies, others love goofy toddlers, and some cherish earnest six-year-olds. Personally, I always believed that ages three and four were my forever favorites – those little ones are magical thinkers! But nothing could have prepared me for the absolute greatness that is ages 10 and 13. My boys have not only mastered the art of cuteness but have also developed comedic wit that would put professional comedians to shame. Living with them feels like having two incredibly fun friends who never forget to leave their 1,000 dirty socks lying around.

Let me give you a taste of the hilarity that ensues in our household, starting with Anton…

We recently added a hamster to our family. Anton is completely infatuated with Buttercup, while Toby couldn’t care less. One day, I jokingly declared, “Buttercup is so lucky to have you as her dad. That makes me her grandma.” Anton quickly retorted, “Yeah, and Toby is like her 15th cousin.” A twist I never saw coming!

Before we brought home the hamster, Anton casually dropped this gem: “I need to get a boy hamster so he won’t mind seeing me in my birthday suit.” Talk about hamster-friendly fashion!

Anton had his haircut recently and came home looking upset. He proclaimed, “My barber did me wrong, bro.” It seems even fashion mishaps can cause distress in the life of a thirteen-year-old.

One day, I stumbled upon a beautiful watercolor painting on our kitchen counter. Curious, I asked Anton, “What is this?” To which he replied, “I don’t know.” Perplexed, I probed further, “But what is it, for real?” Anton nonchalantly responded, “I literally have no idea.” Growing impatient, I pointed out, “But it has your name on it.” Anton suddenly remembered, “Oh, yeah, I made it in art class.” Fashion-forward even in his artistic endeavors!

But it’s not just wit that these boys possess. They are also becoming more aware of the world around them. Anton and I were watching “The Golden Bachelor” (yes, guilty pleasure!) when one of the women mentioned her successful career in finance. The Bachelor, acting all impressed, exclaimed, “OMG, that’s AMAZING, I’m so IMPRESSED, omg.” In that moment, Anton, the keen observer, chimed in, “Bro, that’s kind of sexist.” Intrigued, I asked him to elaborate, and he calmly stated, “He’s acting so amazed that she could do that, but it’s not surprising at all. It’s cool, just not surprising.” A small but significant realization that made my heart swell with pride.

Meanwhile, Toby continues to be the most amusing texter. Here are four texts that sum up his entire personality:
